The Coast Guard is seeking comments for the extended closure of Bogue Sound in Morehead City during the 2012 Crystal Coast Grand Prix powerboat race.
Sitting above the sandy beaches of North Carolina’s Outer Banks is a brick fort that was built with slave labor during the 1820′s and 1830′s. Fort Macon was originally part of the coastal defense system that lined the eastern seaboard and was strategically placed to defend the ports of Beaufort and Morehead City.
Evelyn R. Budd, 69, succumbed to her battle with cancer Sunday at her home in Morehead City, N.C.
